COLLEGE WORLD SERIES: Stuart's Strong Outing Leads No. 9/11 Endicott Past No. 6/8 Salisbury, 5-1
EASTLAKE, Ohio — The No. 9/11 nationally ranked Endicott baseball team took care of business in its College World Series opener against No. 6/8 Salisbury, earning a 5-1 win on Friday evening at Classic Park.
WP (9-0): Brady Stuart (Hudson, Mass.) — 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 11 K
LP (10-4): Aidan Brinsfield (Salisbury, Md.) — 6.1 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 10 K
SV (2): Jake Harmony (Fairfield, Conn.) — 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
After an electric first inning performance from Brady Stuart (Hudson, Mass.) (three called strikeouts), the Blue and Green put up a two-spot in the top of the second to grab a quick 2-0 lead.
John Fusco (Naples, Fla.) kicked off the rally with a bloop down the left field line that took a seat in the slick grass, and he later scored thanks to a Salisbury misplay on James Benestad's (Portsmouth, R.I.) ground ball to the right side.
Then, Adam Regan (Braintree, Mass.) scored Benestad with an RBI single through the left side to cap the second inning scoring.
The Gulls had the opportunity to take further control of the matchup in that frame, but the Seagulls stranded the bases loaded to limit the Gulls offense to just two.
However, an inning later, the Gulls expanded their lead, again behind Fusco's lead.
Once more, the Endicott left fielder blooped one down the left field line that resulted in a double.
Just a batter later, AJ Hamm (Shrewsbury, Mass.) drove him in with a clutch line drive triple into the right center field gap to put the Blue and Green up, 3-0.
With the 3-0 advantage, Stuart continued to roll through the Seagulls' lineup. His lone blemish of the evening came on a solo shot to left field. He was able to thwart any further offensive damage in his six excellent innings of work.
The Gulls added insurance in the seventh and ninth innings, again capitalizing on some Salisbury miscues (wild pitch, hit-by-pitch) to score timely runs.
Jake Harmony (Fairfield, Conn.) followed up Stuart with a near-perfect relief outing, and earned his second save of the season in the process of closing out Endicott's 5-1 victory.
